STORY:

Arkaba Woolshed 4

I’ve always wanted to photograph the inside of a woolshed. I knew of this one, Arkaba Woolshed, in the Flinders Ranges so I contacted a fella who would be able to give me access into the shed to photograph. I organised a day and time a week before and was very excited. While I was in the Flinders, I had no phone reception so I relied on the person I spoke to to be there. I arrive at 10am on the Sunday and waited. 10:05am, 10:10am, 10:15am. No sign of the person. I was disappointed. I really wanted to photograph this woolshed. On my way home on the Monday, I drove past the woolshed and noticed the gates were open. I quickly slammed the brakes and turn down the driveway to the woolshed. I jumped out and spoke to a chap who was there to take care of the landscape. I explained my situation and he allowed me entry to the woolshed. It was amazing. It hadn’t been used a woolshed for 6 years. You could still sense the atmosphere, the smell, the patina of the wood. Sheep dung still scattered all over the floor. Awesome experience. I was no longer disappointed
