STORY:

Wild flowers, Pilbara WA

The planning of this trip began back in August of 2017, twelve months ago now. I started following Clinton Walker from Ngurrangga Tours based in Karratha. I contacted Clinton and told him that I was interested in traveling up his way and that I wanted to photograph the region and to hear the stories of his people. Clinton was very much accommodating. He advised me that the best time to visit was Mid to late July, that’s when the wild flowers are at their best. The striking red flower in the middle of this photo is called Thurla marda-marda (Sturt Desert Pea). In Aboriginal culture, people are identified by the flowers in the region. This beautiful flower is Clinton’s mum's flower and is a part of her skin/moiety group. Love it.
